Elon Musk being the richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $185 billion dollars has been busy on twitter and other social media showing his interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Elon Musk has sent prices of Bitcoin and Dogecoin to record highs on exchange markets in recent months.

The Doge cryptocurrency, a token based on an internet dog meme which started as a joke in 2013, has increased by 1030% in the last month.

On February 4, it doubled in value after Musk tweeted: “Dogecoin is the people’s crypto”. 

WHAT IS DOGECOIN?

According to Dogecoin Whitepaper: “Dogecoin is a decentralized, peer-to-peer digital currency that enables you to easily send money online”. 

It was created by IBM developer Billy Markus and Adobe data scientist Jackson Palmer in 2013 as an alternative to Bitcoin and a parody of the online cult around cryptocurrencies.

TESLA ANNOUNCEMENT

Tesla announced on February 8th, Monday that it has bought $1.5 Billion worth of bitcoin.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it bought the bitcoin for “more flexibility to further diversify and maximize returns on our cash.”

Tesla has also said it will start accepting bitcoin as payment in exchange for their products “We expect to being accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment for our products in the near future, subject to applicable laws and initially on a limited basis, which we may or may not liquidate upon receipt,” the company said in it’s filing.

This first-mover decision will also make Tesla the first automaker to accept bitcoin.

This recent news has caused bitcoin to surge more than 35 per cent since the beginning of the year and recently crossed above the psychological resistance level of $40,000. Hitting a new all-time high of $48,000.

2013년 장난으로 시작된 인터넷 개 밈 기반 토큰  암호화폐가 최근 한 달 사이 1030%나 증가했다.

지난 2월 4일 머스크가 트위터를 통해 "도그코인은 국민의 암호"라는 글을 올린 후 가치가 두 배로 올랐다.               

도그코인는 무엇인가? 

도그코인 백서(Dogecoin Whitepaper)에 따르면 "도그코인은 온라인상에서 쉽게 돈을 보낼 수 있는 분산형 피어 투 피어 디지털 통화이다." 

2013년 IBM 개발사 빌리 마커스와 어도비 데이터 과학자 잭슨 파머가 비트코인의 대안이자 암호화폐를 둘러싼 온라인 컬트 패러디로 만들었다.

테슬라 발표

테슬라는 지난 2월 8일 15억 달러어치의 비트코인을 매입했다고 발표했다.

이 회사는 증권거래위원회(SEC)에 제출한 소장에서 "우리 현금의 수익률을 더욱 다양화하고 극대화할 수 있는 유연성을 높이기 위해 비트코인을 매입했다"고 밝혔다.

테슬라는 또 자사 제품에 대한 대가로 비트코인을 받기 시작할 것이라고 밝혔으며, "우리는 가까운 미래에 비트코인을 적용 법률에 따라 그리고 초기에는 제한적으로 받아들일 것으로 예상한다"며, 이를 수령 즉시 청산할 수도 있고 하지 않을 수도 있다고 밝혔다.

이번 첫 인수 결정으로 테슬라는 비트코인을 받아들인 첫 자동차 회사가 되기도 한다.

이 최근 뉴스로 비트코인은 연초부터 35% 이상 급등했고 최근에는 심리적 저항선인 4만 달러를 넘어섰습니다. 사상 최고치인 48,000달러를 기록했습니다.
